My Safe Haven, My Sanctuary

The cool water relieves my toes
from the burning sand…
hot like lava.
I inch into the water,
and spring into the boat.

The wind sets us in motion,
and we sail
until the evergreens on shore are no longer trees,
but mere pinecones in the distance.

I let my hair down,
and take a deep breath.
I’m free.
The mountains looming around me
give me a sense of protection…
I will forever and always be safe here.
This is my home,
so peaceful, up-lifting and serene.
This is the place I love so much…
Calumet.
