Lucifer Falls

Walls of stone extend high above
Like a castle
Its parapets lined with drooping ferns
A faint spill of water,
With a step, heightened to a deafening roar
Bombarding my ears.

Another step

The solid ground falls away to reveal an empty gap
Crashing flows descend bravely
Into the great unknown.
