To Memory

Archive of the past
You resurface ideas and sounds,
Words and images,
Of long ago.

Our own, personal
Video-clip library,
Hard drive and vault
Life’s preservative

You decide what to keep
and what to toss.
Knowing, always knowing,
What matters most

Archive of the past
Sometimes despised
Sometimes beloved.
Unwavering. Eternal.

You save images
from years ago
But not that name
From yesterday?

You teach
You scar
You embellish
You frustrate

Yet you always remain
Ingrained in us
Changing us
Driving us

Archive of the past
Don’t ever leave,
Dark emptiness prevails.
Without you.
