The Summer I Was Sixteen

One-six
The big one-six
Now we all have cars and licenses
Ready to explore and adventure
On hot, humid, summer days.

Carnivals and the fourth of July
Cotton candy and water parks
Beaches and fireworks
That's how it is
Careless and free
That's how it ought to be

But bang, a crash
Police and ambulance arrive
What happens next?
Tell my family and friends
That I love them

Sixteen
Sixteen too young
And gone
