Death Bed

Where am I?
I look up and see
A blank ceiling.

After a couple of minutes
I gain consciousness.
I look around and
See my beloved ones
Surrounding my pitiful body
Tears, in their eyes.

I try to bring myself up,
But as I try there’s a jolt of pain.
I then recall what happened
When I saw the face of a crying girl.

I was at work in the carnival
Doing my usual business.
I saw a girl, in her teens, walking down
I smile, and hear a screech.

I look up in horror and see a jagged post
Falling down in the path of the girl.
Time slowed down as I tried to reach her
And after that, there was nothing.

The pain was terrible
But my beloved were there for me
They had stayed for hours
Their presence willed me to live on.
It was then night time.
They started to leave
Little by little.

As I’m kissing each one goodbye,
I realize that I won’t make it.
I close my tearful eyes,
And the darkness overcomes me
