Lemons

My poor delicate taste buds cringe,
whenever I try some lemons
They are too sour; they give me headaches

Lemon Meringue pie is no exception,
after no more than two bites of the treat,
I am sick from the bitter-sweet yet overly bitter juice

Lemonade is off limits as well,
While others indulge in the exciting juice
I escape from it's tart properties, instead I drink water,

Still, the flesh appears appetizing
and the sunny skin sings "try me again"
Feeling the waxy outside momentarily pushes me to oblige,

Of course, I've been deceived again

By the pungent flavors of a so-called fruit
While I'm left, in need of an aspirin

for my pounding headache
