Ode to my Lamp

A beauty, you are, with a silver post
and, what is more, a lovely lampshade hat.
How fashionable! So of you I boast
to everyone, even my neighbor’s cat.
You brighten my room to brighten my day.
Because of you I can complete my work
as you supplement the light from the moon.
And although your bulbs too often give way,
I will not hold you to this one small quirk.
You light up the world as you light up my room.
