Hidden

I’m sorry, my mouth is dry as stone
          weathered under
the weight of my emotions

We sit,
a thousand years of unforgiving time
        and a hundred cold miles
between our nearly touching knees

You know, your smooth skin is lined beneath the surface
Do you know, I have no words to ease your mind?
You know, you have tears frozen underneath your eyes
Do you know, the disbelief is also mine?
