Catherine Qin

I’m Sorry

I’m sorry I hit you,
I kicked you,
I punched you.

I’m sorry I picked you up
And then dropped you.

I’m sorry that on weekends you were neglected,
And on long summer days you looked completely dejected.

I’m sorry if I ever glared at you like that,
And called you mean names, like “stupid” and “fat”.

I’m sorry I pushed and pulled you in the hall,
And slammed and shoved you against the brick wall.

But, to tell you the truth, I did it because
You’re only a backpack,
After all.
