Outside the Window

Unrelenting clouds cover the sky.
The sunset is gone, drowned in the hazy darkness.
The distance is shrouded in mystery.
Passersby hurry to their destination.

Shadows grow longer.
Darkness fills the air.
People huddle in their jackets
Against the cold winter wind.

But amidst the darkness,
A beacon of hope shines.
A wreath of lights above a doorway.
A light beckons from a window.

People are laughing
In the sheltering warmth.
The bitter wind cannot touch them
Where happiness abounds.
